Why Is Tesla Recalling Some Powerwall 2 Batteries?

The recall affects a limited number of Tesla Powerwall 2 units manufactured between November 2020 and June 2022. Tesla identified a potential issue with battery cells supplied by a third-party manufacturer. In rare cases, this issue could pose a safety risk.

What This Means for Homeowners

If your Powerwall 2 is affected:

• Tesla may remotely discharge or disable the battery to ensure safety

• Your solar system will continue to operate normally, but battery storage and backup power will be unavailable until replacement

• Tesla will replace the affected Powerwall 2 with a Powerwall 3

• The replacement is provided at no cost to the consumer

 

How to Check If Your Powerwall 2 Is Affected

You can confirm recall status in one of the following ways:

• Tesla App: Affected homeowners will receive a notification directly in the app

• Installer Portal (Powerhub): Authorized installers can verify affected systems

• Contact AHSolar: Our team can check on your behalf and explain next steps

Even if you have not received a notification, it’s worth checking if your system was installed between November 2020 and June 2022.
